8/22 Newsletter

Greetings!

While it may not feel like it with these 98 degree days, we are one week closer to Fall! We see our chickens going in a little earlier at night, grasses getting drier in the hot sun, and an abundance of sunflowers on the farm. We know that the yellows of sunflowers will soon be replaced by the equally beautiful colors of autumn leaves. For now, though, we are thriving in this final stretch of summer and working to make sure you continue receiving abundant harvests. We love this work, and love getting to share its fruits with you all. Thank you in supporting us to nourish the land, ourselves, and this community.

Vegetable Share

We are continuing to harvest a variety of crops as the summer continues. While some things might differ, and some surprises may come, here are the items you might find in your next bag! For storage tips, please visit the CSA tab our website.

  • Zucchini or Yellow Squash

  • Cucumbers

  • Tomatoes

  • Eggplant

  • Bell Pepper

  • Kale

  • Grillin’ Onions*

  • Thai Basil

*Yesterday, we harvested onions that are currently curing for more long-term storage. We wanted to give you a taste of what’s to come, so we are sending out some of the smaller/uncured onions - a tasty addition to any recipe! As these onions are uncured, we recommend that you store them in the fridge.

Cut Flowers

We’ve got a stunning array of flowers coming in at our farm! We are thrilled to be introducing a few small and large bundles of cut flowers at our farm stand this week. Small Bundles will be priced at $15 and Large Bundles will be $30. Gift a friend or loved one a beautiful bouquet, or accent those beautiful recipes on your table this week with a lovely flower bundle!

Meat Share

The next meat share will be available for pickup Friday, September 15th!If you’re enjoying your share, tell your friends! We still have more shares available, prorated to start next month HERE! Mark your calendars with this season’s next pickup dates:

Egg Share

Want to add more farm freshness to your weekly bag? We have more egg shares available for purchase in our shop HERE! These shares are open to the public now as well, so feel free to pass this info along with anyone you might know that is interested! We should have some extras for sale at pickup each week too.

Add-Ons

Want to reserve honey, coffee, chicken, or our farm merch for your order this week? Pay in advance in our shop HERE before 8am on Wednesday and we’ll have it packed and ready in your bag to save time at pickup (or to include if we’re dropping off your delivered bag). Don’t worry if you forget…we’ll still have these items available for purchase on-site, but we can’t guarantee they won’t sell out!

Featured Recipe

Wow! We have been so inspired by our veggies lately, and we hope you are too. It’s hard to choose just one recipe to share with y’all this week! Today we want to highlight Farmer Shelby’s recommendation — this stunning and delicious Simple Spicy Coconut Chicken Curry by Tieghan Gerard at Half Baked Harvest. In this recipe, you will find a way to use your zucchini/summer squash, bell peppers, Thai basil, onions, and perhaps even a cheeky tomato. As always we’d love for you to share what you are cooking up with us on Instagram!

PS: Its (still) pickle season! If you find pickling cucumbers in your share this week, we invite you to quick pickle them. Maybe you have a lot of pickles by now, and you’re comfortable with that process. Either it’s time to start gifting pickles to friends, or perhaps try canning them for longer storage instead.

Farm Events

Join us and the brilliant Leah Rich (Round Trip Goods) at a botanical dye workshop on August 26th from 10 AM - 12 PM.

Sign up here, and please Venmo Leah Rich @hexagong $40 before, or on the day of the event. You will be provided with pre-treated (mordanted) cotton bandanas to dye, instruction from Leah Rich, a helpful worksheet, and all the flowers your heart desires to craft something beautiful and fun! You will also walk away with the knowledge and some online resources to continue making botanical prints at home.

We had so much fun learning and crafting with Leah, and we hope to see you there! Spots are limited, so sign up while you can!

Looking forward to another CSA this Friday, August 25th. As we reach peak season and gradually feel fall coming, we are so proud of the produce we have been able to provide thus far. We are incredibly grateful for your patience, positive feedback, and support for this first year of our CSA. We hope you’re having fun with your shares, and we thank you for being a part of it all. See y’all soon!

Happy Goats & Root Beer Floats,

The Wild Child Farm Team
