6/6 Weekly Newsletter

Hi Friends,

These overcast skies and muddy shoes might seem like a bummer, but with all this spring rain, our greens are absolutely booming on the farm! The overgrown weeds can be hard to keep up with, but our pigs, chickens, and goats sure are loving foraging on all these tasty treats.

As we prepare for our fourth CSA pickup of the season, we’d love to hear your feedback in this anonymous Satisfaction Survey. Let us know how we’re doing, so we can support all your needs as best as we can throughout the season!

We’re back with greens, greens, and more greens! While some things might differ as we prepare to harvest later in the week, here are the items you might find in your next bag along with some storage tips:

  • Kale

    • Wrap the  leaves on a layer of clean paper towels, about 2-3 at a time, and store in the crisper drawer in fridge.

  • Lettuce Mix

    • After opening the bag of salad leaves, you'll want to continue minimizing condensation in the container. Place a clean paper towel inside the bag and seal it with a chip clip. Store in the fridge.

  • Spinach

    • Wrap in a paper towel and place in a sealed storage container or bag in the crisper drawer of your fridge. If your spinach isn't in an airtight container, avoid storing it next to ethylene-producing fruits (such as bananas and apples).

  • Green Onion

    • Wrap gently in a damp paper towel, tuck them into an airtight zip-top bag, and store them in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator.

  • Parsley

    • Fill a jar with about an inch of water. Place parsley, stems down, in the water (like a bouquet of flowers). Store in the refrigerator.

  • Radish

    •  Wrap the radishes in a damp paper towel, and either put this in a plastic storage bag or leave it as is, and find room for your little bundle in the crisper drawer.

  • Beets

    • Leave them unwashed as excess moisture can make beets go bad more quickly, but chop off all but two inches of the stem. Refrigerate in the crisper drawer.

  • Dill

    • Wash the dill in cold water, remove excess moisture with a salad spinner, and wrap the bundle of dill in several damp paper towels. Place the wrapped stems and leaves in a plastic bag or airtight container. Store in the crisper drawer for up to two weeks

  • Arugula

    • Wrap in damp paper towels or a damp cloth, place it in a plastic bag or container and keep it in the refrigerator's crisper drawer.
